Cycling CatTien National Park 2 days
Situated 150km north of HoChiMinh city, the park covers the largest lowland tropical rainforest in south Vietnam, and hosts nearly 350 species of birds, over 450 species of butterflies and over one hundred mammals, including wild cats, elephants, monkeys and the rare Javan rhinoceros. Unfortunately, the last rhinoceros was gone, however Cycling to CatTien national park has more interesting things!!

Day 1: Saigon – DinhQuan – Cycling CatTien National Park.(Lunch, dinner)
07:30 We leave by car to Dinh Quan town on highway 20. We slowly gain in altitude as we approach this volcanic area. After passing Dinh Quan, we take a short hiking to Nui Bo, a volcano hill that was a conical mouth back in Jura era about 100 million years ago. From top of Nui Bo, we can see all the mouth surrounding this area.
We start cycling off the highway 20 to TaLai village, a nice countryside road around the volcanic rocks and red soil farms. We keep on cycling to CatTien national park, one more small hill, see DongNai river on the left side. Upon arrival, we cross the Dong Nai river and head to the park’s administration building.
After checking in, we break for lunch. 14:00 We begin a 8-km hike along the nature trail where we will see a bear rescue center, many gigantic trees before returning to the administration building. What kind of trees on this trail ? There are Lagerstroemia Ovalfolia (BangLang), Tetrameles nudiflora (Tung), Cycas rumphii (Thien Tue), Ancistrolandus tectorius (Trung quan), Afzelia cyclocarpa (Go).19:00 A jeep transport us to the TaLai buffer zone for a night site where we may spot treeshrews, civets, mouse deer, wild boars, and pygmy loris. We will return to our rooms for the night. (very basic guesthouse).

Day 2: Cat Tien Trek – Saigon(Breakfast, lunch)
We start a 9km cycling CatTien national park, bike under the green forest to a junction, where we will hike five km to Crocodile Lake Station. Following a short rest stop at the lake’s watch tower, we hike back to the main road and hop on our bike for going back to our lodgings. After we check out, we have lunch and then return the way we came: ferry across the river and transport by car back to DinhQuan. From this little town, we can bike 15km to ThacMai hotspring for a hot pool relaxing in the forest. After rest at the hotspring, we transfer to Saigon. End of tour.
Options for extra easier cycling if time permitting: 7 km waterfalls route (Thac Troi, Thac Dung). It’s easy and passes by many huge trees.
