Cycling north Vietnam – The slow road 279.
This historical road was built from February 1979 when the war with China begin. The Gorvernment built up this route emergency to have a flexible protection again the Chinese army attacked the northern border provinces. It was a small road, some part still under construction sor far. The scenery of this old road 279 is among the most beautiful of Vietnam, and cycling north Vietnam on the slow road 279 give you a closer look back to the war time.
The photo show old road connected two mountainous provinces Lao Cai and Ha Giang. Recent years, road already enlarged for vehicles and public bus. If you head north of Ba Be national park by boat, then going on hydro lakes to Davi village, then you will be cycling on the slow road 279 where soldiers used to march on it. This is great cycling north Vietnam road, plenty of corner for photos, and primitive tribal villages to explore.
